Just thought i'd continue summarizing steve chalke's book 'THE INTELLIGENT CHURCH'. i'll try to keep it shorter than the previous posts.
A Generous Church the story of Zacchaeus illustrates Jesus' generosity in giving his time exclusively to Zaccheus - jesus singled him out! we need to copy God (who's a generous God)...to demonstrate his unconditional love ... steve encourages us to be generous with our time, our resources and with grace...
Walter Brueggemann "People are not changed by moral exhortations but by transformed imagination".
Homer Simpson"i'm having the best day of my life, and i owe it all to not going to church".
We ought to be known for our immovable committment to the standard and values of jesus: respect, faithfulness, love, grace, mercy, duty[/f], justice, forgiveness, compassion and generosity.
The task of the generous church - revealing the beauty that is already present in the lives of everyone we meet.
The Vulnerable Church Vulnerability is NOT weakness. The source of jesus' vulnerability: his own sense of purpose and determination. Jesus had a sense of self-understanding and self-esteem.
Every time you read lion (in the bible) think lamb!
At the heart of the vulberable church is the commitment to honour and respect people, irrespective of their background or position.
We model christ's vulnerability when we bear the wounds of our community, when we absorb and carry their fears in our hearts.
